Spend a full day in Gijounet following in the footsteps of the “Little Train”, with a programme combining a talk, a shared meal and a guided walk along the former railway line.

The “Little Train” left a lasting mark on the Monts de Lacaune. Even 60 years after the line closed, it still lives on through local events and ongoing restoration work on tunnels and railway buildings. It once played a key role in connecting rural areas to nearby towns, helping to open up this isolated region shaped by its terrain and climate.

The talk explores the history of the railway — from its origins and construction to its operation — and follows its route from the “Trois Viaducs” site to the stations of Lacaune and Brassac. It is illustrated with a rich collection of archival material, including old postcards and past and present photographs gathered over more than 40 years.

Afternoon: guided walk along the former railway line, between Gijounet and Gourp-Fumant, bringing the story to life on the ground

Marc Sicard, a Paris-based engineer originally from Gijounet, is passionate about local history. Several of his works have been published in the Cahiers de Rieumontagné.
