The film won the Screenplay Award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
“September 1940. The Pétain regime is taking shape. Henri Marre, aged 49, arrives in Vichy penniless, with no contacts and far from his wife and children.
He sees the new administration as an opportunity to finally find the position he believes he deserves. In his suitcase is his self-published political treatise, Notre Salut, in which he sets out his patriotic convictions and engineering methods.
His guiding principle: ‘improving efficiency’ to help France recover from its defeat. But perhaps what Henri is really trying to escape is his own personal downfall...”
