In the houses adjoining the Esplanade des Troubadours, the village’s main square, one can still see sections of the castle ramparts. Their thickness, over one metre, attests to the intensity of the battles fought here.

The Portanelle staircase connected the upper and lower parts of the village. At the top of the stairs, the old rampart remains visible, a highly effective means of defence in the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, an assault by Protestant forces was repelled on this very staircase.
In the old village, you can still discover narrow lanes, arches, mullioned windows, dormers, remnants of towers (e.g., Tour du Cazal), an old well, and the presbytery with its ogival doorway on the small square near the former keep: all remarkable features.
