In the 13th century, Castanet-le-Haut was a fortified site within the parish of Saint-Amans de Mounis.
The castle included a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. After the Wars of Religion, Notre-Dame (of the Nativity) of Castanet gained autonomy from Saint-Amans. The current church is a 19th-century reconstruction.
